the impact a book can have
1. How This Book Has Changed Me...
Reading this book has made me more aware and changed my life in so many ways. It has made me a better person for so many reasons. I now see disabled people in a completely different way. Melody may have the physical appearance of a disabled person. She is in a wheel chair, she isn’t always in control of her body, and she is very messy. That may be who she is on the outside, but the inside is a very different story. She has a photographic memory, and is a genius! She got 100% on her quiz. Disabled people are often judged and pegged as useless. I now know that that isn’t true. Whenever I see a disabled person I now know that there is much more to them than their outside appearance. Who they are is the inner layers of their identity. I have also grasped a better understanding of what an identity is. Melody has helped me to do so. Her identity is layered and so is every person’s. On the outside she is a girl in a wheel chair. She looks funny, and has tornado explosions. She can’t do anything by herself, she can’t even o to the bathroom! She’s messy and drools. Everyone just ignores her. But she isn’t only that. On the inside she has a personality, she has needs, she cares, she thinks, she loves, she has a brain, and more than anything she has dreams and desires of her future. She is made up much more than her outer appearance. She has taught me that we are not only our outer self, but we have content. We are like books. We have a cover, that symbolizes our outer appearance, and the top layer of our identities. Each page on the inside reveals something else about our identities. They are our inner personality, and inner identity. Some people make the choice to open the book, and read who we are, others don’t. They judge a book by the cover. That is a metaphor for the depth and judgement of our identities. The character Melody has taught me these lessons, that have changed me and made me more aware. The book has changed my perspectives forever. the impact a book can have2.
This book has changed me as a
person because this really made me think about how lucky I am. I can express my
self in all ways, and when you express that makes up parts of your identity. My
identity is mostly clear, as is most people’s, but there are people in which
that is not the case.
My views on disabled people are way different after reading this book. I now understand that just because they are not average doesn’t mean they’re dumb, they could be super smart but no one would know except themselves. Most people would just judge them and think they’re dumb, but it’s their choice to do that. It may be an unconscious choice to judge them. But once you’re aware you can consciously change that. This book will change me forever. The Impact a book can have
3. This book really told me to open up my eyes to world around me and open my mind to the people around me. I has told me to be more open-minded and more caring. It also has changed who I am and how I treat others.
With seven billion people on this planet seeing disabled people in your daily life is more and more of a common thing. Most people look at them they might feel sorry for them or they might not but only a few ever give them a chance to shine in this world. Through this Melody is bombarded with people not giving her a chance but every so often there are those people who treat her with respect and give her the chance to do what "normal" people do. It also has shown me there is no normal just those who are like the majority and those who aren't. Also before I read this book I learned that the majority is not always right and in my personal experience their usually wrong. Everyone has that one thing they're good at it's their little light inside. But every one also has a rock concealing that light inside a cave. Some people are really good at removing that rock and seeing the light, but some just get stuck outside and can never see what is really inside. Melody is very smart - it's her light, but she also has a wheel chair - her rock, and some people like Rose can see that but some people like Mr. D just get stuck. With the people of the people that can she who she is melody was able to put something up that would help most see that inner light. The thing she put up was her MediTalker. I now think back to every disabled person I've seen and say "You have so much to do." because they do, they should get all they same rights as we do. A side from how my views on the disabled have changed, I want to end with five words. The power of a book. |
There is always one who stands alone and different.
